Meta post: Clarification
I just want to clarify that the title of my previous post is singular. I did not say “WoW guilds are dicks,” I said “WoW guild are dicks.” Singular. Just the one guild. At least for the purposes of the post.
And yes I understand that the quest is not controlled by a single guild, and that anyone can do it. My point was that the quest is hard and big enough that it takes a large guild to pull it off successfully. If you like big guilds, that's cool. If you don't, well then you get to stand by and depend on a big guild to bang the gong.
Also, to address some specific emails:
- Yes I did play the game, as I mention in the post.
- I don't play EQ2 anymore, so please consider me an ex-carebear.
- Surely you can come up with more creative prose than “train your ass on how it feels to get ur ass handed to you.” Using “ass” twice in the same sentence really dilutes it.
- Yes I eat with this mouth.
- For my next boyfriend, I will take under advisement your advice to “shut my retarded mouth” and make him a sandwich. Thanks for the relationship help.

Well, I hope you'll be getting as many emails of apology on behalf of the dimwitted as you got from those who lack mental capacity or social graces … but somehow I think signs point to “No.” I found your post (and really, since coming here from Broken Toys, all your posts) to be well thought out, funny and apropos.
Though while I got your point and didn't think you were accusing every single guild of being dicks (especially because of your disclaimer within the post) … I found the headline a mite confusing. Being that you used the singular “guild” and the plural verb conjugation “are” … I actually read it the first time as “WoW guilds are dicks” … mentally inserting the “s”. Then again, I agree that the vast majority of guilds in many online games are dicks, so I just smiled and nodded and continued reading.
I'm pretty sure Lum included it in his book “MMOs for Dummies”, the best thing about MMOs is the people … and also the worst thing.
Oh yes, and I play WoW.

All guilds, being composed of people by and large, are dicks.
Especially the all-female ones.

Sorry, don't think any amount of backpedaling can somehow twist that now enough to turn it into “oh my god but i meant just one guild, honest… i didn't really paint everyone with the dick brush for a quick superiority stroke my ego could not resist”. Especially when you're well aware in advance of the impact your comment would have. “(sweet jeebus I'm going to get email for this, so in my defense let me just say that I believe I was on the “Designated asshole server,” mmkay?)”
