Stupid stupid stupid…

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

So I'm over at Scott Jennings website.  Scott is an Executive Producer at Mythic, but all you need to know about him is that Athena herself pulled Scott from her busom and delivered him unto us gamers.  And now he blogs.  I look at his latest entry, and it is nearly incomprehensible at first-glance.  OMFG [...]

Ron Moore "gets it"

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

It may surprise you that a self-professed geek chick doesn't watch a lot of science fiction television.  I'm not proud of that, but I just don't watch much television, period.  I love classic science fiction however, especially the original Star Trek.  And Battlestar Galactica.  I love the old Battlestar Galactica.  I only caught it in [...]

Blizzard backs down

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Kokatu is reporting that Blizzard has  backed down from their citation against Sara Andrews for violating the WoW harassment policies:
According to the letter, an e-mail from “Thor Biafore,” the head of
Blizzard’s customer service worldwide, acknowledges that the action
taken against Ms. Andrews was based on an “unfortunate interpretation”
of Blizzard’s current policies.
Hopefully Blizzard will back down completely, [...]

Eventually, every blog has to have…

Top 10 things I learned at the Superbowl party.
10. The “mobs” do not have an “agro radius,” and they are called the “defense.”9. The guys in the striped shirts are “refs” not “GMs.”8. The NFL did not “so totally rip-off” Madden 06.7. The women in the beer commercials are not booth babes.6. The booth babes [...]

Thoughts on Identity Theft

Monday, February 6th, 2006

From the millisecond someone at Sony uttered the words “Everquest 2,” before the first artist was hired, before the first quest was committed to virtual paper, the clock started on the server merge.  It was a question of when, not if.  It's a little surprising that the first server merge happened less than a year [...]

Saturday night edition

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

I love dogs, really I do.  Especially big cuddly…um…dobermans.  Now before you go all educating me on how dobermans are people too, let me just say something.  I'm a very open minded person.  I donate to the SPCA annually.  I'm sure “Chain” is a lovely dog.  But Chain has…what's the word?…loose bladder syndrome.  All night [...]

It's Friday

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

Let's just pick one from random here…
From: Toby in L.A.
Dear Amber,
I just want you to know that every time I had to kiss that ugly creepy Kirsten Dunst, I was thinking of you.Ah Toby, you're a sweetheart.  Love ya, call me!

From: John Smedley
Dear Amber,
I still have that nasty feedback form you left about how you [...]

Boom boom boom

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

Blizzard's recent actions potentially affect all gamers.  Over at Kokatu, they're reporting that “the nation's oldest and largest legal group dedicated to the protection of gay and lesbian civil rights” is getting involved now.
Let me tell you why I think this is a goddam shame.  It's not a shame they're involved, it's a shame they [...]

Women in games

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

The Escapist Magazine has an article by game design god Chris Crawford, “Women in Games.”  It is of course a great read–anything written by Crawford is a great read–although being a little more militant than your typical woman, it's hard for me to completely look at it from the “gatherer” side of the equation.  Chris' [...]

WoW GLBT redux

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

I finally got around to reading the original email exchange between Sara Andrews (the founder of the GLBT-friendly guild on WoW's Shadow Moon server) and a WoW GM.  It made me sad.
It's one thing for Blizzard to say “it's our game, and we say what goes.”  I can respect that.  But it was the reason [...]
