Chocolate Banana Lumpia
If you’re still mad about the Dixie Chicks post, this’ll turn that frown upside down.
Maria, my new neighbor, just moved here from Guam. I spent part of the weekend helping her unpack and run a few errands, and then we made chocolate banana lumpia. OMFG if there is a heaven, the streets will be paved with chocolate banana lumpia, and you will see angelic pothole crews behind me trying to keep up. Haha, who am I kidding? I’m very likely going to the other place, where I don’t want to know what kind of lumpia the streets are paved with.
Go forth now and make ye chocolate banana lumpia, and rejoice with mouths a-full.
Chocolate Banana Lumpia
Ingredients:
- 1 dozen medium bananas, ripened but not over-ripe.
- 2 dozen large lumpia wrappers
- 6 large Hershey’s chocolate bars. No nuts. It works best to freeze them beforehand.
- Cooking oil. (We used peanut oil)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 Tbsp Cinnamon
- Chocolate sauce, fruit, ice cream, whipped cream, or other garnish
Directions:
1. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together, and set aside.
2. Peel bananas, slice into halves. Then slice each half lengthwise.
3. Using a vegetable peeler, shave the chocolate bars.
4. Place 2 banana quarters on the edge of the lumpia wrapper closest to you.
5. Place some chocolate shavings in between the banana quarters.
6. Roll the bananas into the wrapper, making sure to tuck the outside edges of the wrapper in.
7. Moisten the edge of the wrapper to seal. You can use a toothpick to hold it if you need to.
8. Repeat for the rest of the bananas and wrappers.
9. Heat the oil to 350.
10. Fry the banana lumpia until golden brown. Let them drain onto a paper towel when removed, but don’t let them cool too long.
11. Roll the lumpia into the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
12. Serve warm with garnish.
I brought over a nice local Merlot, which went pretty well. Maria’s husband likes them with port. But heck, eat ‘em with a 40 and they’re still heavenly.
Please drop me a line if you make this and tell me what you think!

I made homemade Hummus this weekend, and I must say that I fancy myself quite the little wee slight mokin gourmand. My only regret is that I didn't use fresh lemon juice and went instead with the bottled kind that must have some sort of off-putting preservative. Still and all, my homemade hummus was quite bombass in the sense that it was like having a bomb in my ass (?).
Oh, yes, your lil recipe sounds nice too.

Boy, that sounds good, though quite labor intensive. It would be a good thing to have at a party, where the whole crowd can participate in the manufacture. I'm afraid I won't be making these for myself any time soon, but your recipe will give me something to fantasize about.

What the dickens is a lumpia wrapper? Everything was going so well until I ran into that requirement.

This looks delicious, I will concoct these scooby snacks for my weekend cheat meal in the very near future.
