I vaguely remember a Dragon magazine ad for one of the billions of indie (or small press or whatever the term was back then) RPGs of the mid 80s with the selling point "best of all NO ELVES".

Seems like all fashions in fantasy recycle sooner or later, maybe my dream of the 'self-pitying leper saves the universe' MMO genre taking off will come true after all.

The original Fallout had an ad like the "no goddamned elves" bit. Can't find a copy right now, but the lines were something like:

"Fallout. A classic RPG*"

"*Without any magic, elves, dragons, or other crap."

GURPS? That's all D6 isn't it? Heh... yeah that counts. It's been a long time but I thought cyberpunk was decidedly "non-elf". I guess they've invaded.

While we're discussing fantasy MMOs, WTF hasn't anybody made my Wild West MMO yet? C'mon, cowboys and outlaws? Trains to rob and wagon caravans to hold up/defend? Small pioneer towns? Cosmopolitan big cities? Sherrifs, bounty hunters, houses of ill-repute! C'MON!! It's already written in our country's history just slap down the code already! Do I have to think of everything? And yes Virginia there are 'no goddamned elves'.

Oh! Another thing! Pirates of the Burning Sea had better not suck all brands of ass! I will not be pleased to see Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, Edward Teach, Grace O'Malley et al misrepresented.

I'd love to see an MMO based on Top 10. I just finished reading Volume 1, and the MMO possibilities are huge. They'd have to make sure not to simply make another CoH, and possibly even work closely with Alan Moore.

/drool A Steve Jackson game would be great (Cyberpunk in particular).

How about a Teenagers from Outerspace? I don't remember an elf there...

Sorry to lose the geek points, but I actually had to Wiki RIFTS and Palladium, having never heard of either. (RIFTS seems to have elves btw, so perhaps it's another title you're thinking of?) I played GURPS once though, does that count?

Damn, and here I thought I was being original.

"And no goddamned elves" Wasn't that an ad campaign for the RIFTS system? Either you're far geekier than that for which I've given you credit or you should be writting for Palladium.
