Pat Buchanan on Hannity and Colmes:

BUCHANAN: Security is one of the main concerns. Look, border security is national security. In 2003, there were 50,000 people caught on the Mexican border coming in other than Mexicans. Last year, it was 155,000. It has tripled. The whole world has gotten the message that Mexican folks got about 20 years ago. The whole world is coming, Sean, and a lot of those folks, you can bet intelligence agencies are sending them in, Al Qaeda is sending them in. Al Qaeda folks have talked about coming in through Mexico.

Pat Buchanan

I admit, the problem with illegal immigration is one even I struggle with.  I mean, I believe in opening our arms to "huddled masses, yearning to breathe free."  But I do worry that many of those masses have brown skin.  Also, I'm scared shitless that some immigrant is going to cross our border and then board a plane with liquids and snakes.  I'm just sayin', it could happen.

But it's not really just about security.  According to his new book, State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America, (currently topping the list at Amazon.com, and shatterng my theory that rednecks only read MoonPie wrappers, restraining orders, and The Drudge Report) here's the the bigger problem:

High among the [costs of immigration] is the appearance among us of diseases that never before afflicted us and the sudden reappearance of contagious diseases that researchers and doctors had eradicated long ago. Malaria, polio, hepatitis, tuberculosis and such rarities of the Third World as dengue fever, Chagas’ Disease and leprosy are surfacing here…. Bedbugs have invaded the United States for the first time in 50 years, with 28 states reporting recent infestations.

Holy shit…here we are, completely distracted with illegal immigration, and bed bugs are crossing our borders completely undetected.  It's really only a matter of time before one of them boards a plane with liquids and snakes.  Teeny-tiny liquids and itty-bitty snakes.  They're adorable of course, but deadly.

Okay, he's probably not so worried about bed bugs.  It's really all about…waiiit for it…

By 2050 … there will be almost 2.5 times as many people here as in 1960: 420 million. The share of the population of European descent will be a minority, as it is today in California, Texas and New Mexico. And that minority will be aging, shrinking and dying. There will be as many Hispanics here, 102 million, as there are Mexicans today in Mexico.

The descendants of the men who went out from Europe to conquer and Christianize the world have decided to leave the world. The culture of death triumphs, as the poor but fecund Muslims, expelled centuries ago, return to inherit the estate.

…that's right bitches, racial purity for the win!  We fucking conquered it first, how dare you poor huddled masses bastards carry your diseases and your culture into the country that we diseased and culturated first. We stole it fair and goddamned square, just as God commanded.  We were nice enough to let you toil in our fields and factories, and raise our rich white kids, but nobody said you could breed.  Quite frankly I think you're being just a little selfish.

We also resent your use of death/age/shrink rays on our cold infertile white women.  Being in California (aka "ground zero for death/age/shrink rays") I'm an inch shorter (I think.  At least, I feel an inch shorter) than I was yesterday, a year older than I was on this day in 2005 (the last time I tested my age), and am unable to bring myself to sleep with Sean Hannity, thus ensuring the end of the white race.  Damn you Mexicans and your whorishly fertile women!

So listen up immigrants.  Yes we know you're dying (by the truck loads in New Mexican deserts) for a taste of American freedom, but you're just going to have to wait your turn, and in your own country.  We've only got so many bombs, and we're still working on democracy in the middle east.  Once we're done freeing them, we'll start working on justifications for war on Mexico.  But please―and I cannot stress this enough―help us to help you.  Deny you have weapons of mass destruction, and insist you have no connection to terrorism.  But most importantly, DO NOT have a WMD program, and DO NOT have ties to terrorism. (you'll notice Iran has both, so we can't liberate them.  I don't make the rules, sorry.)  It's the only way we can not find WMD's and connections to terrorism, and then demand proof that you don't have them.  You have to want it that bad.  Oh, and oil.  Lots of oil.  Come to think of it, that's probably the most important thing.

Every time I hear about illegal immigration I wonder what about it is illegal? Why is it so hard to emigrate? If you strip away the political, financial, religious, or prejudiced agendas what you have left is motive. Why do people want to emigrate to the U.S.?
Obviously there are good intentions and there are bad intentions. Getting a job, paying taxes, contributing to society = GOOD Blowing up buildings, hijacking planes, smuggling liquid snakes = BAD

Now there are varying shades of gray all between those two examples and the biggest sticking point for most of the people I speak with is the difference between hard working motivated people and those who seek only to live off the state. I won’t make this any longer than it already is but I believe we need to look at the motivation of the immigrant. Some people seek to be respectful members of society and regardless of their origin should be welcomed. Some people are freeloaders or terrorists but those labels are not exclusive to immigrants and we need policies in place for citizens and non-citizens alike.

We’re gonna free the shit out of you!

I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Pat Buchanan has a point, but I would have made the argument that every resident in the US should be held to the same standards and laws as everybody else. By extension of the same logic that allows illegal immigrants to remain in the country, people will get away with theft or worse because they’re from a bad part of town. I don’t need Mr Buchanan’s statistics to tell me that they’re breaking the law, just as sneaking snakes onto planes is breaking the law =p

    *blink*

Did you just make a funny and it flew over my head?

On topic: I am a libertarian on most issues but am fully with liberals on Iraq/Iran. I am also a comediarian in that I LOL at Bush’s inability to deal with Iran because he has us so bogged down in a completely pointless war. Er liberation. I also LOL that even with US proxy support Israel got their ass kicked by Hezbolah. Not because I hate Israel (I don’t) but because western meddling in the middle east continues to be such a miserable failure and anyone should have seen this coming. We need to let those people work it out for themselves and get the hell out of there.

Unoriginal unfunny it’s been done on all the late nite shows. You need new material Amber. It is easy to make jokes about immigration but what would you do about it? If you were president how would you handle the problem of a middle east that is strategically important to the united states? Its all nice and flowery to think about running our cars on granola but right now we need oil. Controlling the middle east is in our national interest and neccesary for our ultimate survival. Those are just the facts you can’t change them. And you should stop taking Buchanan’s quotes out of context. I think he is a little nuts sometimes too but on imigration he is absolutely right. Go to LA or Sandiego sometime and see what is in the future for places like San Francisco and Portland and Boston if people like you get there way.

btw I normally love your sight, just hate your politics. Keep up the good work on games but leave politics in your prius.

  6. Amber Says:

It is easy to make jokes about immigration but what would you do about it?

Well normally it’s just my job to just make smartass commentary on how screwed up everyone else is. Which is not to say that I don’t think it’s a problem that needs to be addressed. But wake me when there’s real dialogue and a serious attemt to address the problem, rather than just election year rhetoric. (for starters, I’d look more at the demand side of the equation, instead of villianizing the supply side, who just want a better life.)

If you were president how would you handle the problem of a middle east that is strategically important to the united states?

Let’s be clear on this point: I would be the worst president…ever. But I’d make a great goddamned dictator. And while I started out thinking I’d have to send you to the camps, I’m feeling a little generous because you said you liked everything about me except my politics. Am I not merciful, Kranium?

I don’t know what the solution to the middle east problem is, but I know what it isn’t. It isn’t democracy at the barrel of an M-16. It isn’t dropping bombs to liberate. It isn’t lying to the American people in order to justify personal vendettas. It sure as heck isn’t torture or holding people who have never been charged with a crime indefinitely.

I think he is a little nuts sometimes too but on imigration he is absolutely right.

Every time somebody agrees with Pat Buchanan, an angel falls in a thresher. Just from this post alone, 2 angels are currently on life support, and their prognosis is not good. I hope you’re happy.

Hopefully Kranium is joking, Amber for President of the good ‘ol US of A! Even as a Brit that scares the crap out of me.

Not as much as someone who thinks it is acceptable invading another country and attempting to ‘control it’, because they have the oil and you happen to want it.

‘Controlling the middle east is in our national interest and neccesary for our ultimate survival’ Horse shit…..

  9. Syntax Heir Says:

‘Controlling the middle east is in our national interest and neccesary for our ultimate survival’

    How about:
Controlling the middle east is in our national interest and necessary for our ultimate convenience?
Ultimate survival? We’d be tapping our own reserves if that were the case.

  10. Tipa Says:

I live in (well, really near) San Diego. I guess I’m not seeing the bad stuff. Yeah, so the majority of my neighbors are of Mexican heritage. So?

Just came back from visiting family in New Hampshire, where most people are of Canadian or European heritage. So?

I just don’t see the difference. Everyone comes or came from somewhere.

  11. benro Says:

Well stated. This rhetoric is profoundly disturbing, almost as disturbing as the fact that Faux News is giving this guy a platform on which to speak.

  14. Kranium Says:

Tipa, im not talking about skin color. Look at the city around you. Hispanic culture and crime is displacing traditional american culture. Hispanic crime rates are high because there are so many of them and they mostly live in poverty and they live in poverty becuas our economy cant support them. I happen to agree with Buchanan that our own culture is worth saving but it cant happen when our borders are so open and hispanics keep driving us out.

Amber you are so nayeve about terrorism you should really stick to games. War is hell and you cant treat terrorists like comon criminals. If you have to beat the fuck out of them or kill them to get information that will save lives then thats what you have to do. They should have thougt about that before becoming a terrorist. I garantee that if you needed to torture someone to protect your family you woudl do it. But you want to give them a time out. Its because of these guys that you are able to sit in your comfy chair and make fun of the people who are protecting you. You want to cut and run and then would scream loudes when a terrorist files a plain into your building.

Write more about games Amber its what you do best.

  15. Tipa Says:

Kranium, I DO live in a high Hispanic neighborhood with more Latinos than whites. I notice no more crime than anywhere else I’ve lived. They’re people just like me. They send their kids to school just like I did, go to work, come home, have barbeques… in short act like every other American. A good third of the people at my work are Hispanic. Guess what? They’re just like anyone else.

Big deal. So they can speak Spanish. Get over your prejudices.

America is a nation of immigrants. Come from Mexico or Mars, when they get here and become citizens, they’re Americans same as you or I.

Illegal immigration is, well, illegal. Immigrants should go through channels if they want to work or live here. I don’t disagree with that. But to hate someone just because they come from another country, speak another language or have a different color of skin — how can you possibly support that?

  16. Dave Says:

I almost never pick on grammar/spelling because I’m so bad at it, but this tickled my funny:

You want to cut and run and then would scream loudes when a terrorist files a plain into your building.

Hee! “Nobody move or the manilla folder gets it!”

But back to the topic, Kranium has a valid point. You would scream loud if a terrorist walked in to your building to file a plain. They just don’t make filing cabinets that big.

    Ba-ching!

I could keep this up all day but I’ll stop now. Try the veal.

Dave (someone misspelled my cool internet name)

  17. Andy Says:

Hispanic culture and crime is displacing traditional american culture.

I’m quite certain you mean to say

Hispanic culture and crime is displacing traditional american culture and crime.

  18. Wizzel Cogcarrier Wizzleton IV Says:

Hispanic culture and crime is displacing traditional american culture and crime.

Well, you know – Hispanics get up to some crazy weird crime.

  19. TheeNickster Says:

    From Tipa:

    Illegal immigration is, well, illegal.

It’s only illegal so they can be retained as a cheap labor source. If these people were citizens you’d have to pay them the full 5.25 an hour and possibly think about giving them benefits. we don’t really want the freakishly rich to have to pay that much for housekeeping, do we?

  20. Bartoneus Says:

The problem here stems from the fact that a very large majority of illegal immigration in the US is made up of hispanics, and I’d be willing to bet the majority aren’t from Spain and Portugal, but from Central America. They come to America because they can make three times the money for less work, and they’re Illegal because then they don’t have to pay those pesky taxes and support the very existence they’re striving for.

That’s the difference, Tipa, between Mexican immigration and European / Canadian. I certainly don’t agree with -everything- Kranium says, I think Amber does wonderfully with politics, games, and all other topics, but he’s not completely off-base about the immigration ideas. The rest is just stereotyping and human nature.

  21. BugHunter Says:
