I Hope They Blew Their Contest Budget On The Game

Sons of Gondor, break out your crayons!  A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, when we color outside the lines.  But it is not this day!

From Lord of the Rings Online:

LOTRO fans, it's time to get creative!  We're pleased to announce the LOTRO Cloak Design Contest.  Using the cloak template provided, create a design you'd like to see in the game, and if your entry is chosen, that's exactly what will happen!

See below for terms and conditions.  Good luck, and we look forward to seeing your designs!

The template.  Seriously, I'm not making this up.

As an exclusive to Amber Night readers, I happen to know that next month's contest is "Add pointy bits to the ear template, and if your entry is chosen we'll put your ear on an elf!"

Are they donating a certian amount of money to charity for every drawing of a penis they get?

Judging by the overwhelming volume of replies, I see that you are alone in this spiteful little tirade. God forbid a company try to reach out to their players! This is something I will never understand about people like you. When a company ignores their players, you bitch. When a company reaches out to theri players, you bitch. Seriously what can a company do that would make you happy? I am sure the answer will entertain us all.

Spiteful perhaps, but tirade? I object. Spitefully.

Okay, first of all, I just found the template pretty haha funny. I know there’s not much more you can do with a cloak template, but it seems as close to drawing a little box and telling players “make us something pretty” as you can get.

It also seems to me that you are doing something for Turbine that professionals get paid to do, and yet the only compensation is “we will use your design if it sucks less than all the other entries.” Hell, even kids making Nikes get paid more than that. I mean, would it kill Turbine to at least throw out a beta invite?

On some level, I see the contest as disrespectful. It’s like Turbine is saying “we couldn’t be bothered to spend any money or resources on this contest, and if you win, we still won’t go out of our way more than the effort it takes to clean up your submission and add it to our art database.”

I hope that was entertaining enough.

Hunter, you obviously dislike Amber, please exercise your right to not read her blog. You are like those Christians who insist on watching TV shows they know will be objectionable just so they can complain about it. Change. The. Channel.
