Hello Kitty Island Adventures Totally Poans WoW
Saw the World of Warcraft South Park last night. Loved it loved it loved it.
I haven’t watched the show regularly for about the last 2 or 3 seasons. I only watched it last night because I heard about the WoW tie-in, and I’m glad I did. It was a great surprise, and a wonderful poke at MMO players. I haven’t played WoW for quite some time, so I’m not sure how authentic the chatter between the players was. It really doesn’t matter though because it’s the same banter you hear in every MMO. Cartman played the bossy group leader perfectly, Stan’s dad was the perfect noob, and who hasn’t played with the totally clueless-at-any-level player, represented by Butters? The juxtaposition between the epic in-game action, set against monitor-gazing zombie-like gamers was priceless. I’m not so sure how well the show translated to non-gamers, but hey, “screw those guys.” It was a great treat for gamers, and I’m sure it generated some much-needed publicity for Blizzard. Ahem.

I loved the “He killed Kenny” tie in, the armor setup that they used for the characters, and the “WORLD of warcraft” references. Very classic.
A lot of the characters had high level gear. None of them were noobishly equipped.
Cartman as a PALADIN? I would have pegged him as Horde for sure.
When they walked into the Arathi Highlands, I’d mentioned to my son that the wildlife would kill them way before the evil guy could kill them, if they were just levels 1-20 (supposedly they were way lower level than that). Also, supposedly there were 5000 people in Arathi at the time
probably waiting to get into the battlegrounds…
A lot of the animations – not the least of which was the tossing of the (obviously two handed) Sword of a Thousand Truths from one hand to another – aren’t in WoW. Neither was the time when Cartman looks at the identical Butters’ toon and points with a free finger on the hand also holding his maul. Or when Stan burns his fingers on the fire spell.
Also instead of giving the sword to the paladin (Cartman), they gave it to the HUNTER (Kyle)… yeah wtf HUNTERS GET EVERYTHING.
Some of the buffing and strat discussions Cartman was giving didn’t make any sense.
Still… I want to know how they did all the custom animations. And if they somehow managed to get all the animations in game, that’s the best mechanima I’ve ever seen.
The bad guy hacker… even on a PVP server, Alliance can’t kill Alliance without dueling. There is an illusion item in UBRS that lets you take on the appearance of someone in the opposite faction. This could have been done on a PvP server with this illusion item. It does dress you in appropriate clothes (my troll priestess became a dwarf hunter for instance, with hunter armor and an Indy Jones hat), but you can then remove pieces to get a naked effect — which we saw in the episode.
Kinda made me WoW-nostalgic!
I bet they did it with Blizzards help. In fact they probably did it on in-house servers and used Blizzard employees so that they could stage everything perfectly. The emotes and animations are almost for sure custom in-house creations.
I think it would have been funnier if they would have limited themselves to what the game can really do. For instance instead of tossing the sword I think it would have been better if they had to go through the pain of the noob dad opening a trade window and then you see his mouse kind of flailing around trying to figure out how to trade. Like maybe if he gave him some berries or a drop sword or something stupid first. I thought for sure they were going to do it that way when the dad started asking how he could give the item to Kyle.
LMAO!
Dave (someone stole my cool internet name)
Just for the record, Cartman wasn’t a paladin, he was a warrior. ::nerd-noises::
Dwarf, wielding two handed maul, asking for an int buff… warriors in WoW, the ones I’ve seen, anyway, either spec protection for shield and 1 hand weapons, or spec fury for dual wielding.
How do you know he was a warrior?
He was a warrior. He said at one point he was going into Defensive Stance. Warriors don’t need int (except for gaining weapon skill), but he probably asked for Arcane Brilliance for the group.
Yeah, I just totally nerded out.
“Cartman as a PALADIN?”
Well he is a rightious asshole.
I loved the episode, I was laughing so hard. I don’t really watch Southpark religiously, but I do catch an episode now and then. And of course, after seeing the update on the WoW site, I had to watch. (Im an ex-WoW player too) When Cartman was giving off orders like “Use your Elixir of the Mongoose,” it painfully reminded me of my raiding days, even if the orders he was giving made no sense.
My roommates probably think im crazy now.
WE LOST CLYDE!!
I dont want to argue about this, but kyle was the mage, stan was a warrior (he got the sword from hes father) and kenny was the hunter (human hunter…
) cartman was the other warrior. and this episode rocks!
“how can you kill the one, wich has no life?”
Just watched the episode again, and was a bit confused :S
there is a scene where they kill boars, and one time you can see cartmens interface. Well he is actually a rogue, has sinister strike icon in hotbar, eviscerate and there is also the stealth tab and he even has energy
and blizzard was working together with the makers of southpark, so they let them fool around a bit. Thats why they where able to let alliance vs alliance fight
yall know all that WoW banter was straight from that youtoob video with MY hero Leroy Jenkins right? not the exact words acourse..well except for Cartman’s “christ”. ive watched this stupid show on google about 10 times so far…i just love poor Butters….Hello Kitty Island Adventure…jeez that slays me…
