Penny Arcade Collapses Into Self-Devouring Singularity Today Only

My mom is apparently reading blogs these days, and that scares the crap out of me.  If she types"Hello Kitty Island Adventures" into Google, my cover is blown.

Anyhoo.

She sent me this link: Today is "Cartoonists Against Violence Day."

All I can think of is how cool it would be to see Satchel gun down a purse snatcher.

I love Get Fuzzy. It gives me that same warm and fuzzy feeling Calvin and Hobbes did while growing up.

I think it would be more cool to see Satchel gun down Mary Worth.

On-topic: Satchel gunning down Mary Worth would be ok. Satchel gunning down any Pluggers character would rule.

Off-topic: !!! BSG SPOILER ALERT Read no farther if you haven’t seen Part 2 of Exodus. !!! Best scifi television moment ever when Galactica warped into the atmosphere launching vipers and warped back out before hitting the ground. Also, first time I ever felt sorry for Tigh or his wife. I hate you Amber for addicting me to that show!

I think gunning down a Pluggers character falls under poaching, but I take your point. A lot of people over at The Comics Curmudgeon would agree with you. And if you hate Pluggers, you’ll really hate They’ll Do It Every Time.

Also, first time I ever felt sorry for Tigh or his wife.

Anybody that didn’t tear up during that scene is a Cylon. Hell, I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

You love me. Now pump your fist so we can find another vein…

    For great justice.

Tigh knew Galactica was coming. Why did he feel he had to .. do what he did .. right then. Was it really the kindest, best thing?

Galactica doing a full-body drop to just above ground level was amazing. Never seen anything like that and I had no idea what was happening before the end.

It’s cool how BSG still echoes the old show… They got rid of the Pegasus, Baltar is now with the Cylons (will he get his own base star now?), will it be long before they meet the Children of the Light and Count Iglis?

It would be surreal if Baltar steps onto a Cylon base star and sees dozens of copies of himself… though it has been said a million times that he is not a cylon.

    ** BSG spoilers **

Damn, see what you've done Dave? :)

I thought the same thing. I think there were 2 situations in play: 1) Anders was pushing him to do the deed, and Tigh probably knew they wouldn't wait for it to be resolved on Galactica. A good argument could be made that she could still do some damage–nobody really knew the extent of her involvement, even though the audience did. 2) Tigh probably knew the outcome on Galactica would be the same, but only after being drug through a trial and locked up for perhaps months or years. He might have seen it as a mercy killing. Thematically, it was a brilliant moment. Saul losing the woman he never really had, and Ellen finally showing the dedication and character she had never shown. (Excuse me, I need a kleenex… :) )

By the way, I was left wondering if Ellen knew what was in the cup, and lo and behold Kate Vernon (Ellen Tigh) posted on the SciFi forums, and someone asked her that very question. She confirmed that Ellen did know it was poison, and was saving Saul from having to do it himself. In any case, I have to say that it was one of the most powerful moments of television I've ever seen. I hated Tigh, and didn't care much for Ellen. But wow…part of me is kind of angry with Ron.

Galactica doing a full-body drop to just above ground level was amazing. Never seen anything like that and I had no idea what was happening before the end.

Same here! It's got to rank in the top 3-5 television special effects scenes ever. The combination of live action effects and special effects were perfectly executed. I'm disappointed that Baltar has been separated, although plot-wise it's really the only plausible outcome if he's to live. I always thought his interactions with the crew ranged from disturbing to comical. In fact, I think you could argue that Baltar was one of the only sources of comic relief in the show. Now he's going to be surrounded by Cylons.

But then again, RDM has shown time and again that this show is anything but predictable. Speaking of echos of the old show…will we see Baltar "delivered" to Galactica down the road?

Second only to Saul and Ellen's final scene was the very end of the episode. The contrast between the crew hoisting Adama on their shoulders and celebrating, with Saul, a broken man, walking away, and Starbuck re-living her own personal hell, was brilliant. Best episode of BSG thus far.

I think I see “Wile E. Coyote” back there. And next to him is Rat of “Pearls Before Swine” fame.

I love “Pearls,” by the way. And Looney Tunes. And I don’t think cartoon characters can promote or discourage violence among reasonable people.

    Except maybe South Park.

But I love that too. Kill Kenny!

    Responsibility.

Tigh was responsible for allowing his wife to be in that situation, and to allow her to be manipulated. He was responsible for resolving the problem. It’s the same reason a man with a terminally ill dog doesn’t allow him to suffer, or allow another man to be the one to put him down.

Tigh has always shown himself to be a responsible man, for example, taking responsibility for the Marines shooting civilians in season two, and his confession to Adama that he was in over his head after Adama was shot. Executing his wife was absolutely in line with his character. And yeah, it did make me want to cry.

BTW — this show is beautiful in HD.
