Kind of a Big Deal
It's the moment you've been waiting for! Alright, well it's the moment I've been waiting for.
Before you hit that play button, allow me a few shout-outs to:
- THE ALLERGIES! The Allergies are an indie band from Denver who graciously allowed us to use their muy freaking awesome track, This is the Life. Check out The Allergies on Myspace. They've got a few tracks up, all of which kick ass. These guys are gonna be huge, and remember you heard them here first. Head on over to their site and support indie music.
- Het. She's 15 right now (and should NOT be reading this blog, young lady!), but you're going to see her name right up there with Coppola and Spielberg someday. We simply would not have done this project without her. Mostly because she has, you know, a camera. And one of those cool clacker things. Her Myspace page is here. Although I don't even know why I'm linking her, because at some point I managed to fall out of her Top 8. Yeah, I see how it is. Oh…it's on.
- Het's dad (who plays the Reiner-esque interviewer), moxcamel. But only because his daughter rocks. Otherwise, he mostly got in the way and tried to bludgeon the talent with rogue microphones.
- Het's brother, who plays the BlogTroll with a scary amount of enthusiasm. Keep on saggin'!
- The guildies: Loveslave, Porkfat, and KOSPwnzr. (We all decided on pseudonyms at the beginning of the project, can you tell?) And yeah, I really game with these guys!
- My friend J who let us re-arrange her apartment and inconvenience her cutsie-wutsie pug.
- The cities of San Francisco and Monterey, CA, whose permission to film within city limits we did not obtain.
- The United States Coast Guard, who inexplicably and very slowly drove an SUV down the beach while we were trying to shoot a scene that does not involve a goddamned SUV.
- Bob Saget. Who couldn't be bothered to return my calls, so I had to write his part out. Bob hon, I know you're busy, but it takes 2 babe. Honestly I'm feeling very ignored. Plus I still have your thumb, so call me!
We all had a great time making this silly little thing, and I hope you enjoy it.
Alright, enough of the blah-blah already. Enjoy! And as a special treat, if you turn the sound down and play it to Dark Side of the Moon, it makes even less sense.

*Cheers*
*Warns anyone remotely glancing in this direction that it contains a spoiler*
This was much fun to watch! I especially liked “Extrapolate the Jews”, though my lampshade did file a complaint with the EU court of human rights.
Congrats to all the people who made it happen!!

Yup, just another day at AN.
Video tagged as: Amber, Nazis, Party Wipe, Public Peeing and Trolls
BTW, is that really your voice? Cuz dammit, I can’t unhear that now. There goes my nice British-accented internal Amber voice. Nice job though. =)
December 4th, 2006 at 2:22 pm
Good Times.
Great work everyone, especially to me for watching it and to my microwave for the stellar popcorn. Amber Night, you’re right about being a good blogger, but I am a better blogger, I don’t even have to update to be edgier and brusquer than you. WoW players should be exfoliated, see that?
Everyone did good, thanks for sharing and yes I did chuckle at a few parts and smile wide, which isn’t an easy task unless I’m watching Scrubs.
Is a sequel being bandied about?
December 4th, 2006 at 2:43 pm
Well worth the wait!
- The music was fantastic. I usualy hate punk but this was good.
- EXTRAPOLATE WOW PLAYERS!!!11!1!
- Best line ever: “She has boobs.” Was wondering what that dude was sitting there for.
- Second best line ever: I’m opinionated and that makes me different from everyone else on the internet.
- Was that a post-it note stuck to Hunter…..I mean Blogtrolls….helmet?
- I never would have thought mango farmers were the key to stopping RMT. In hindsight it makes so much sense now!
- WOOT bloopers! Loveslave had me in stitches. Shit I think my Warlock is married to “her.”
Dave (Amber Night stole my cool internet name and put it in her credits)

@Jpoku: You and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Hobos might want to form some kind of class action.
@Ken: I spent 3 years at Juillard training my “American” voice. It’s naturally cockney, which is strange considering I grew up in Denver. The rine in spine sties minely in the pline.
@Krones: Okay, if I got the same reaction you get from Scrubs, then my job here is re-hee-hee-hee-hee-ly done here, Regina. (My Dr. Cox impression)
And a sequel? Are you f’ing kidding me? If I never see a camera again in my life, I’ll be happy!
We did throw a few ideas around, but I doubt it’ll happen for a very long time. Also, until Het puts me back in her Top 8, it aint happening at all. She is, however, working on an idea for a little 2 minute short that will see a couple of the boys reprise their roles. I’ll link it if she does it.
@Dave: Yes, it was a post-it. I wasn’t there for that shot, and asked the same question. That shot was a total after-thought, and Het threw it together in about an hour. I really love the randomness of the post-it.
Oh and sorry everyone for the minute of blank nothingness at the very end of the video. I don’t know how we didn’t catch that. But I’m glad you guys liked it, it was a lot of fun to put together.
December 4th, 2006 at 4:38 pm
“That’s so funny! I don’t know what to do with it, it’s like so close by the time I notice it!”
…that’s what she said!
Very nice! I was hoping the final product would be, i’ll say better, then the out-takes, so I was not disappointed!
December 4th, 2006 at 4:40 pm
Awesome stuff. You’re definitely channeling Sarah Silverman, if she was actually a nerd like she played in that pilot.
And thanks for the shout-out in the credits. Not only did you credit Bartoneus and I, but you also credited our blog (not as a URL, but I’m sure someone will watch it, pick our website out of your credits, then google it.)
Now I’m in the credits of two movies: this one, and a documentary about women’s wrestling.

[...] I think someone finally has a larger blog-generated ego than I. [...]
December 4th, 2006 at 5:28 pm
Hmmmmm why did my comment get eaten? Maybe cause I haven’t posted in so long?
Luvd the video that was awesome!
Also, saw your first “review” on Technorati. They are idiots and don’t know how to link, so you have to go to http://www.thatguys.co.uk/ and then scroll down to “Why you shouldn’t put a video on your blog unless you are positive it isn’t very dull or doesn’t make you seem worse than people assume you are.” They are so very not funny haha!
December 4th, 2006 at 7:03 pm
Sorry Fubu, your other comment was noshed on by the spam filter. Sometimes it does that, not sure why.
"thatguys" love me. They really really love me. I think it's so cute the way they think they're people!
@T Game: Someone at some point must have posted as "Critical Hits" because it all came out of the database thing. Love Sarah Silverman!
@Bartoneus: Happy not to disappoint! In hindsight I probably shouldn't have posted the cutting room floor stuff. There's a reason it didn't make it in.

[...] Amber Night makes her play for YouTube fame. And it’s relevant to game design! Check out the incisive commentary on gold farming: Amber: Gold farming is like, these players who are Chinese or Australian or something, and they go out and they plant gold… seeds. [...]
December 4th, 2006 at 8:43 pm
Woo! I made the credits. I guess that means in my own way, I’m kind of a big deal too. (Oops, I guess that one is taken now. Um… I’m kind of an average deal?)
I am however disappointed that there wasn’t a plug for Hello Kitty Island Adventures. Maybe in the next one.
December 4th, 2006 at 9:06 pm
There are 2 Hello Kitty references in the video!
December 4th, 2006 at 9:18 pm
I like the socks!
December 4th, 2006 at 9:43 pm
Great job Amber!
Just so everyone knows, the camera puts on 100 lbs. I swear!
And Loveslave is a riot! And hey girls, he’s available! Do girls read this blog? heh
Porkfat rules!

A WoWer’s funny video about her blog…
A WoWer’s funny video about her blog…
December 5th, 2006 at 5:47 am
I loled, I typed “/cry”, I kissed 15 minutes of my life goodbye.
But, I’m in the credits! Hooray!
Seriously, it was funny.
Good stuff.
Have fun.
December 5th, 2006 at 6:22 am
I sat and watched the whole thing thinking there was going to be a “hidden track” or something… I feel cheated.
December 5th, 2006 at 7:20 am
Ignore the morons at ” “that guy’s” ” they’re probably just bored I imagine. They’re so unbelievably funny. . . . . NOT
Great video, looked fun to film!
Maybe now you’ll make Boing Boing, you know, hit the big time. Remember the little “people” when you are there though.
December 5th, 2006 at 8:08 am
I see the Hello Kitty on the backpack at the end, but I dont see the other one. Easter egg hunting time!
Dave (I’m in the credits!)
December 5th, 2006 at 9:38 am
I guess I have to wait till I get home to watch it. Dang corporate anti-streaming policy!
December 5th, 2006 at 9:59 am
@Bug: You can also download the Quicktime version here. Hope that helps.
December 5th, 2006 at 2:23 pm
Ok Ive watched it like 5 times now and I only see 1 Hello Kitty. Yes I have no life. But I think your messing with my head Amber!
December 6th, 2006 at 12:57 am
Too funny Amber, looking forward to the weekly podcast from now on….
We need to see more of the tutu and tiara, maybe next time perhaps?
December 6th, 2006 at 2:38 am
Aw amber sweetie, that vid is tremendous. Really hope things are well! Haven’t seen/commented you in ages. Are you still WoWing? I gave it up… I kept seeing your face in every female Night elf that walked by.
Later Snoogums
December 6th, 2006 at 10:02 am
Hello Kitty is mentioned at least twice in the credits! And so is my site!
Why do women play healers so much? I do, we now know Amber does, but really… pure healers have been shafted in EQ and its clones (DAoC, WoW, EQ2)… All the work and none of the fun…
That’s MS. KARANA to you.
December 6th, 2006 at 10:45 am
Midgard Healers in DAoC are the best. To paraphrase Loveslave, you can “swing, heal, stun, mez,” and be pretty effective at all of it. I’m convinced it was the best class in the game. Speaking for myself, I have to admit I’m probably a product of the whole “women as nurturer” class role, but I also like the challenge. Any healer will keep you alive in most fights, but a good healer makes for a successful evening. There’s nothing better than sticking that one heal that would have otherwise resulted in a party wipe. Or so I’m told.
The 2 Hello Kitty refs are not in the credits. Or I guess there are 4 Hello Kitty references counting the credits.
Tipa, you (or a loved one) must have posted under your site name at one point, because we just did a database dump of everyone who had ever posted.
Nerf Clerics!
December 7th, 2006 at 3:58 am
[...] And now for something completely different. By unbeliever 1) Via lumsipoo, we gets a fun movie from Amber Night. [...]
December 8th, 2006 at 10:08 am
If not for the skirt and legs that would be totally unwatchable. As it is, very nice. Funny too.
December 8th, 2006 at 7:00 pm
I’m the second-longest name in the credits! –after “hello kitty island adventures seeker,” the dirty whore.
December 12th, 2006 at 2:06 pm
Wow that was just funny as hell Amber, great job!
I’m a bad Blake, while I’m out here in NJ I’m very bad with keeping up with things.
I think I need to be beaten!
December 13th, 2006 at 8:26 pm
Am I fashionably late to this party? The vid totally rox my sox. Nicely done Amber… even if I didn’t get my cameo.
December 13th, 2006 at 11:03 pm
@Wizzel: You almost got your own smaller font.
@blake, Syntax: Thanks for the props!
December 14th, 2006 at 5:22 am
This has 1,180 views now according to YouTube….
Wow, that’s like me, and 180 other people who watched it only once ;op
December 22nd, 2006 at 8:26 pm
Nice film. I liked the book better, but it almost always works that way. And, in my head, you were a lot taller. And someone else. And there were more people on your couch. But other than that, I really liked it.
Especially the part about blog trolls. At my consulting company, we’ve been saying for awhile that a good blog troll is the key to better traffic. That’s why we offer blog troll development services.
Seriously, though. The guys you game with are totally hot.
February 6th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
[...] Now I suppose I should do a sort of retrospective introduction, Amber has been blogging for over a year now under the prestigious guise of some sort of woman that also happens to be involved in game development (somehow, I think she paints the programmers’ toe-nails or something…) It should be quickly apparent to anyone with a set of decent eyeballs in their head that she can write up one hell of a storm when she really wants to, and serves that writing up with a dose of opinion and a dash of feminism, throw in a tablespoon of flamers, haters, and spammers and you get yourself one damn entertaining blog! She was fortunate enough to get a hands-on *wink wink* interview with one Raph Koster back in december, and shortly before that she made a video for what purpose I can only guess was to simply get more traffic to her site (I kid, I kid!). She has, thankfully, assured me personally that I will be going into the slave-pens when Amber-nation comes to full fruition, an honor for which I shall be forced to be eternally grateful. [...]
