Friday Links, Fallout Edition

Hey now, you're a rock star.

In Wednesday's post , I wrote:

1. Two words: Precasting.  You heard it here first.

It turns out that fellow Colorado native Fear of BV beat me to it.  So although you might have heard it here first, Fear actually said it first. (so call off the identity thieves please… :) )

A lot of people linked my interview with Raph, which was very flattering.  But nothing brings you back down to earth more quickly than realizing your place in the grand scheme of things.  The link to my story in this post is in the word "is."  I got third person singular, and Tobold gets a conjunction.  You don't even get my word on Grammar House Rock!

Checking my referrers, I see a couple guild forums which you have to have a login to read, have linked to the story.  And I just know they're saying mean things about me!

Kwip pays me the ultimate honor, and it pained me to come clean.  I do, however, fight crime in my spare time.

I agree with Mike, Raph is loving the "meta" guessing game.

Dragon accuses me of being "inciteful."  Let the flag burning begiin! :)

Late Entry: Your (NSFW) holiday YouTube:

And finally, I answer your letters:

  • Thanks, but I prefer the term "attention escort."  It's classier, y'know?
  • Yes, I know Richard Bartle isn't dead.  Read the whole paragraph.
  • I didn't post the "real" Raph Koster questions/answers, because, as it turns out, Raph Koster is Cthulhu, and his answers would drive you mad.
  • Yes I've formed an exploratory committee, but no, I haven't made any firm decisions yet.

Have a great weekend everyone, and if you celebrate Christmas, have a merry one.  Light to no posting over the next week, so please stay safe, imbibe responsibly, step away from the keyboard occasionally to be with your family, and we'll see you next year!

Peace out.

By the way, I’ve already got the word “inciteful” up for patent or copyright or whatever it is you do with new words. Apparently I’ll get royalties every time someone uses it.

    Have a good christmas!

  2. Amber Says:

    Oh, it’s so on now.

(Okay not really. That was cute!) :)

  3. Hunter Says:

    Oh, it’s so on now.

(Okay not really. That was cute!) :)

Dumb Ass. I don’t think he was trying to be cute. Spot on Dragon spot on. And I’ll go ahead and say it: attention whore. What you lack in talent you try to make up for in attention whoring. I’m glad more than just me see thru it.

  4. Bissrok Says:

Jeez, you’ve got some angry commenters on this site.

But I was sad to see that our site didn’t get mentioned here, even though I spent a whole sentence praising your skills as an interviewer.

  5. Fear Says:

Amber must have turned Hunter down for a date tonight or something. I haven’t seen that much *hate* since Adrick and I took on the Lummies about statloss for Player Killers (reds) in Ultima Online…

Hey, is statloss one word or two? Thanks for the retraction. ;) Surprised and please post more funny interviews. kthx!

Is statloss one word or two? Keep posting funny interviews k-thx!

Thanks for the retraction, I will tell my lawyers to chill out and stop leaving you voice mails. ;)

  7. Endie Says:

Oh, you have shamed me - yes, shamed! - into adding an entire phrase’s worth of link to your article. I was tempted to bust you down to “a” for complaining, but it is the season of goodwill…

  8. Bartoneus Says:

I believe you meant to use the word Incitive, instead of some fictional word like Inciteful (the cash is in the mail Dragon).

    That or Infertile.

  9. Amber Says:

@Bissrok: Link? I'll add it. Sorry for missing it.

@Dragon, Bartoneus: Actually, I was surprised to learn that inciteful is not a word. The word incite means to stir up or instigate trouble (which is why I mentioned flag burning), but the act of inciting is, apparantly, not inciteful. Bizarre. When I read Dragon's post over on TR, and I believed inciteful to be a real word, I thought inciteful was perfect!

@Endie: There is a special place in heaven for you my friend. :)

@Fear: Sorry I missed all the snow. But you know, it was downright chilly over here on the coast. I think it got down to 50. Had to break out my sweater even. Brrrrr. :) Thanks for calling off the lawyers, I was starting to screen my calls…

  10. Fear Says:

LOL, Got down to 50 you say? I hope you had plenty of propane available on the beach!

The lawyers wanted me to ask you why 1-976-Amber is not available in South Korea? I dunno, they were cheaper then paying for American Lawyers.

The snow situation is still pretty bleak here. I am a city boy, now staying in the country, so it has been quite the “culture shock” transformation. Fortunately the good-ole-boys of Strasburg are quite friendly and even wave as I drive past them even if they don’t know me. Wierd, but strangely comforting. I have not seen a single banjo since I arrived here, but there aren’t any mountians on this side either, which I think helps greatly.

Did I mention that Bono is a Knight? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061223/ap_en_mu/people_bono

Just something to keep you warm up there in cold Cali tonight…

How is WoW anyway? I haven’t played in a guild since Everquest 1. I guess I need to stay home more. I have been reading some of your older posts, they are quite amusing, and informative. I hope you get another developer gig someday.

  11. Endie Says:

Yeah, I thought that “inciteful” was perhaps an intentional neologism. Of course, everyone knows that Gabe has laid down the law for neologisms and the web: you must italicize them, so everyone knows it was totally on purpose.
