Gary Gygax Continues His Lifelong Mission To Starve Children, Feed Their Souls To Spider Goddess Lolth
From Gamerush:
U.S. authorities say a couple from Reno, Nevada was so obsessed with playing video games online that they left their babies to starve.
…
The children are now doing well and regaining weight in foster care. Their parents, Michael Straw, 25, and Iana Straw, 23, now face up to 12 years in prison. Prosecutors say the couple was too distracted playing Dungeons & Dragons online [sic] to give their children proper care.
To summarize, the couple was obsessed. With Dungeons & Dragons Online. I mean, it wasn’t even Everquest or World of Warcraft or hell, even Second Life. It was DDO. I’m sorry, but an obsession for DDO is like an addiction to Gummy Bears. I mean yeah, everyone likes Gummy Bears until about 3rd level or so when all the design flaws really start to truly manifest themselves, but I don’t know anybody that can’t put ‘em down after one or two. (Are you still with me? Good.)
What’s truly sad is that it should have never gotten to this point. At least one of the parents has had a run-in with the Reno Sheriff’s Department before. The signs were there people. The signs were there.

DDO … that was what made me shocked about this article when I first read it as well. I mean we’ve all heard the EQ or WoW stories, but DDO?
Such promise in the game, in terms of very cool dungeon runs, etc. but otherwise it’s a dead/flat world. Sigh. What a waste of the D&D IPO.

omg, may they be forgiven.
(Makes me laugh on first thought, but after that I must admit it’s a little frightenning).
whatever, once and again, Dude, I love how you write :3

Yeah. That was my problem with their claim too. I was like, “Come on, it’s bad enough that you’re awful parents that are totally neglectful of your children AND that you’re blaming videogame addiction for it, but please… DDO? At least pick a game with a grind.”

I don’t think comparing DDO to gummi bears is very fair. Gummi bears don’t deserve that kind of stigma.

I just watched the video of the dungeon master guy. I never cared for that show but that scene cracked me up!

I feel that by linking to the video, Amber is being insensitive to Dungeon Masters by portraying them in a negative light. First of all, that scene was clearly staged. He clearly identified himself as Gorgomoth the Demonic God of Conquest. But everybody knows that Gorgomoth wears plate, not chain. *snort* As if Gorgomoth would be caught dead wearing chain. lolol! Also, just how was the Wizard supposed to be casting a spell if they were in a sphere of darkness? He has to read it from either a scroll or spellbook, unlike Sorcerers. Hellllooooo? There’s NO LIGHT in a sphere of darkness! No Dungeon Master would make such an obvious slip-up. I call shenanigans!!!
Amber, as a 12th Degree Dungeon Master of the Second Order, I feel it’s my duty to demand a full apology for spreading the myth that Dungeon Masters are out-of-touch control freaks. Failure to comply will result in blue bolts from heaven.

Good entry. Now, I respectfully request a blog entry on this news story: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/16/colorado.capitol.ap/index.html
“A man carrying a gun and declaring “I am the emperor” was shot and killed Monday outside the offices of Gov. Bill Ritter…”

Okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one who had the reaction of, “what a minute, DDO?! How could anyone be that addicted to DDO?!” I mean sure, it was fun and all… for about 2 days out of the 2-week trial. Then it was into the trash bin with the program.

Umm, “what a minute”??? I plead sleepiness, and hang my head in shame.
