Can You Rite Gud?
As seen at Penny Arcade, Bioware is looking for writers. (3rd post down) You don’t even have to be published or have worked in the industry. You just need to do a little work:
So yes, we’re shaking the usual trees and our HR folks are turning over
all the rocks they can think of but I had to go through over three
hundred qualified candidates to find the team I have now so a lot of
those trees have done already been shook. With that level of challenge
around finding writers, I want to throw out an open invitation for
anyone out there that thinks might be the strange combination of RPG
fiend and talented writer to grab a copy of Neverwinter Nights and start
putting together a writing sample. I don’t care if you can script, just
put three guys in a field and attach conversations to them. Make the
plot compelling, write the NPCs as real people who could exist in a
believable world even if the PC wasn’t there, give me an interesting
choice or two and you’re done — easily something can be done over a
weekend and there’s a ton of great community support online if you’re
really tech deficient.Anyone out there want to write for the game company with three of the top five rated RPGs of all time on their biggest project ever?

In a quick glance, I can’t see that it says it anywhere in in the PA post or on Bioware’s page, but I’d assume they want people who live in, or are willing to move to Austin.
I thought that was a rather bizarre way to drum up applications, but I can’t see that it could hurt too much. Does anyone else find it odd that they’re asking for NWN submission, as opposed to NWN2? Think they’re trying to keep cost down for people who’ll have to purchase it to apply or might they be speaking more generally?
It seems like a good way to find people with new and interesting ideas. They’re looking for people with a certain kind of creative writing ability. One that comes from, or is similar to, the abilities and know how of a RPG game master/DM. I think this is a great way to find people.
As for the game specification; I think he could be intending both games as possible application platforms. I don’t see why they would exclude either source.
Off topic: Have comment frequencies dropped staggeringly in the last few weeks or is it just me?
I think the lack of comments probably has to do with the lack of (quality) content lately. I keep hoping my schedule drops off enough that I can get back to playing games and then snarking on them, but so far there doesn’t seem to be much end in sight.
We’ve all been banned.
Did you apply, Amber?
I didn’t. I wouldn’t want to re-locate to Austin.
If I could write well, I would be there. Sounds fun! I come up with crazy ideas, but was never too good at getting them down on paper. I’m sure they could work out a work from anywhere kind of gig.
