Your Friday Cinema
The stoned dude on the upper level thought he was controlling it all.
Thanks Trin!
Update: I FINALLY figured out what was causing the problem with embedded YouTube clips. So those of you reading from an RSS feed should be able to see the video now. Sorry it took so long.

I love seeing videogame references in the mainstream. Makes the preoccupation seem more real and less like something that only kids and nerds do.

When I was in the Longhorn Band, we did a video game show, too. I don’t know how it sounded from the stands, but the crowd cheering was pretty loud. Our directors had literally no experience with the old classics, so some of the forms you’d expect were missing. For instance, for Zelda, we did a big shield with a Z and a sword through it, but no Triforce. A couple of other guys from the trombone section recorded themselves playing the first two or three levels of Super Mario Bros. and some Legend of Zelda for reference material for the directors… I guess at least they used it. Anyway, cool clip, Amber. Does it say which school’s band that was? I couldn’t understand the audio.

Cal State.
Do you mean the Youtube video? Still working for me.
November 19th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Sorry, Amber, “Cal” is University of California at Berkeley. I recognize that logo.

Doh, you’re correct benro. Being from CO, I keep forgetting “Cal” is much bigger university system. Back home you could say “Colorado” and just know it was CU Boulder.

I always found it amusing that many schools so want to be THE school for their state that they have grammatically (roughly) equivalent names.
Xxxxx University.
University of Xxxxx.
Xxxxx State University. (As opposed to the nation of, say, Kansas?)
Until recently, Texas had only the University of… (Unless you count Tech or A&M, but that’s beside my grammatical point) Now we have a Texas State. Ah well.
