You Know What Would Make Me Feel Better?

A Beta invite to Warhammer Online.

A friend of mine got in. The conversation went something like this:

Me: So how is it?
Jerkface: It’s cool.
Me: Yeah? So tell me about it.
Jerkface: Can’t. NDA.
Me: Oh come on. It’s me!
Jerkface: You have a blog.
Me: Have you read my blog lately?
Jerkface: Sorry, I can’t break NDA.
Me: Jerkface.

Come on EA/Mythic. Don’t be a Jerkface!

Yeah, if you get one and have some to give away, please think of poor little old me. I have been on the invite list for like 2 years. I wants to give its a shot.

  2. cyanbane Says:

Also, whats with the boob pic?

  3. cyanbane Says:

Did you notice the queue for Beta apps was over 600k?! That’s crazytalk. And that’s a funky disqualification about your blog, there are beta testers with podcasts ffs. Of course, they only SAY they are beta testers and can’t talk about the game. Still though, they’re bastiges all the same.

“Have you read my blog lately?” I LOLed.

I got an invite a little while ago, along with one for Age of Conan, but I just don’t have it in me to play another level grind. I meant to give them away, but I think I just deleted them… I’m never much for beta anyway. As appealing as it is to get a new, unreleased game for free, I don’t think I’ve ever actually had a good time in beta, and it usually leaves a pretty bad first impression.

And I know a lot of MMOs like to rip off WoW, but this one didn’t even bother to improve on the system at all. I mean, even LotRO managed to improve a lot of the systems they were stealing. But WAR just seemed to have changed a few names around and call it a day. I mean, yeah, WoW didn’t invent these mechanics, but that still doesn’t mean that these games aren’t ripping them off. And, yeah, the WoW IP is a ripoff of the Warhammer IP, that still doesn’t mean that their ideas are any more original. And, while those last two sentences didn’t really have anything to do with Amber’s post, the debate about whose stealing ideas from who is going to come up eventually, because it always does with this game.

I’m sorry…what? I stopped reading after “but I think I just deleted them.”

    /em cries

  9. JuJutsu Says:

Can’t wait to roll up a dark Elf eh? :)

  10. Psychochild Says:

Don’t worry, Amber, I’ve never gotten into a closed Beta, either. They tend to let in more bloggers than “enemy” game developers. Which is funny, because I’ve probably heard about 90% of the from other developers, most of which don’t work at Myth…, er, EA Virgina?

Anyway, at least you have your sense of humor. ;)

I know the feeling. My friend and flatmate just picked up his Age of Conan invitation. This is not as devastating as if he had got a Warhammer Online invitation and I hadn’t but I still sneer at his door as I pass it for the sake of good form.

That was a nice boob, and I can’t comment any more, NDA.

  13. Amel Says:

Non-mobil boobage is better than what the DOA girls have to put up with. Their chests wobble like an old bobble head whos spring has been stretched. Although I whole heartedly agree that full armor is severly lacking there. But then, it’s unlikely that that sort of advertising will ever change. Boys like the boobs. Heck, some girls like them. Personally, I think a woman in full plate armor is more sexy. But I like a woman who can kick ass.
As for the NDA, don’t worry about it so much. Bissrok has several good points. Betas can be dissapointing, WAR isn’t likely to be much different from WOW, and all will come down to itellectual property rights infringement soon enough. It’s just not worth getting worked up over.

To be perfectly honest…unless you’ve played WAR, you really have no basis for judging how similar it is to WoW. I can say I’ve played WAR already…at PAX. I spent at least 6 hours over the course of that weekend playing WAR. If you’re convinced that it will be just another WoW clone, then by all means, stay with that. Me, those 6 hours destroyed every notion that it was anything like WoW. I can only imagine with everything else they’ve implemented what it’s like now.

Amber, I have a few friends that are not so tight lipped…they said “it is definitely a beta, however, the concepts implemented are amazing.”

DE Black Guard all the way.

I say from the heart of Warhammer beta … it’s cool.

Can you get me a beta invite too while you’re at it, plskthx!
